Chair of Operations Management (OM)
The Chair of Operations Management was founded in 2012. An academic staff of more than 15 work on interdisciplinary, application-oriented projects focusing on sustainability aspects of industrial supply chains. The aim of the chair is to design sustainable production and logistics systems that can meet the ecological and social challenges of today, such as scarcity of resources and climate change. The ensuing interdisciplinary models and solutions have international visibility and recognition.
The Chair of Operations Management offers various courses and seminars for students of Business Administration, Economics, and Business Administration Engineering. We teach the fundamentals of production, logistics and supply chain management as well as topics with a special focus on sustainable development in industry. Our teaching is a blend of theoretical knowledge with methodological and modeling approaches as well as practical applications and case studies. Most of the case studies used in our lectures and tutorials are derived from research projects and cooperation projects with industry partners. On the basis of the lecture “Sustainable Supply Chains”, we offer project modules on current energy, mobility and environmental topics. Furthermore, we offer a wide range of supervised theses that also focus on sustainable development in industry, often in cooperation with enterprises and/or research projects of the Chair.
Research at the Chair of Operations Management focuses on application-oriented, techno-economic modeling and assessment of logistics and production systems as well as supply chains. Within the three research fields “Management of Value Chains”, “Resource and Sustainability Management” and “Sustainable Mobility”, the academic team develops and implements innovative solutions via interdisciplinary collaboration with industry and business partners. Examples are: the market diffusion of new drive technologies in the automotive industry, the assessment of production supply chains for alternative (bio-) fuels, network planning for recycling and reverse logistics activities, as well as the planning and controlling of sustainable mobility systems. Our research projects are implemented in interdisciplinary cooperation with research institutes from the engineering, social and natural sciences, industrial partners as well as policy makers.
